Tough Love Is Still Love
Written by Tamie M October 27th, 2018
There is nothing Loving about standing idly by and allowing people to behave poorly toward you… or others while in your presence. ❤️

There is nothing Loving about endorsing and condoning destructive behavior through our passive acceptance and silence.

There is nothing Loving about listening to someone rip people to shreds, time and time and time again, while we stand there being “polite.”

Neither is there anything Loving about minding our own business while watching someone we Love kill themselves on the suicide installment plan of self-destructive, addictive behavior.

Make no mistake. Our silence condones and endorses destructive patterns of thinking and behaving that left to run amuck wreak havoc on countless lives, generation after generation. The effects are real.

I get it. No one likes to have a light shone on them.

Yet, IF we Love them, we don't leave them in the dark.

If we Love them, we'll respect their right to free will, their right to hurt themselves if they so choose, but not without saying a word about it. We'll call it out for what it is…

~ And sometimes that'll open a dialogue.

~ And sometimes that'll be enough to inspire change.

~ And sometimes it won't.

~ And sometimes the next right step will be to walk away.

~ And sometimes it won't.

~ And sometimes, it's not our place to say anything.

~ And sometimes the next right step IS to walk away.

~ Either way, the LAST thing we want to be doing is standing around, nodding our head, quietly participating, allowing our silence to passively support, condone, or endorse what we know is destructive and harmful.

I once told someone I Love deeply that if she wanted to kill herself slow but sure, that's her prerogative, but it wouldn't be with me sitting on the sidelines keeping my mouth shut about it.

We haven't spoken since. And I can live with that. I said what I needed to say, whether she had the capacity to hear it or not.

On some level, I know, it landed.

Every day, I pray for her. Every day I continue to Love her deeply… from a distance while respecting her right to do what she chooses with her life. It's her life. And mine is mine.

Friends, tough love is STILL Love!

Stop passively participating. Stop silently condoning. Hold yourself and others to a higher standard. And when need be, be willing to walk away.

Sometimes our absence is the most powerful statement we can make. Whether they hear it or not, is not our business.

Our business is to live our Truth. With dignity and respect. ❤️

Whatever it is for you. Say it. Mean it. And do what you need to do.

Spread the Love… even when it's uncomfortable to do so! Ultimately, you'll be glad you did!!

With a heart full of massive Love,
